Did You Know?Meritage (rhymes with heritage) means “blend”, a term developed decades ago by Napa Valley’s leading winemakers in their efforts to make wines that rival France’s great Bordeauxs. The purpose of the term Meritage (a compound of the words merit and heritage) is to help identify American wine blends that, because they're not made with at least 75 percent of a single variety, can't use the variety name on the label. A Meritage must be a blend of two or more Bordeaux grape varieties such as CABERNET FRANC, CABERNET SAUVIGNON, Carmenere, Gros Verdot, MALBEC, MERLOT, PETIT VERDOT, but no more than 90 percent of any single variety.
