Spas of America Names Spa Terra One of Top 50 Spas Globally
NAPA, Calif. (January 19, 2012) – The spa travel website Spas of America recently announced its annual ranking of the Top 100 Spas of 2011. This list was based on consumer behavior from its website. The website, featuring more than 800 spas from around the world ranked, The Meritage Resort’s Spa Terra as #39 globally and #8 in California.
The Top 100 Spas of 2011 includes 67 spas in the U.S., 30 spas in Canada, and one spa each from Mexico, Costa Rica and Italy. Spas of America’s Top 100 Spas of 2011 are ranked by unique page views generated by customers visiting the website throughout the year. Spas of America’s global audience is very targeted: 70 percent women; 80 percent United States/Canada; 25 to 65 years; $75,000 to $250,000 annual household income; leisure and business travelers; and health, wellness and lifestyle oriented. In addition to the U.S. and Canada, Spas of America draws spa travel consumers from Europe, Asia and South America.
Spa Terra, the world’s first and only spa in a wine cave, offers an underground oasis, providing an escape to rejuvenation and wellness in a beautiful setting. The spa, located in the 22,000 square foot Estate Cave behind The Meritage Resort and under nine acres of private vineyards, recently expanded to include 12 treatment rooms, including four couples’ rooms.

The spa treatments for the face and body that include wine, grape seed oil, olives, citrus, herbs and honey from the Napa Valley. Solo Vino, a signature treatment at Spa Terra, begins with an exfoliating grape seed scrub, followed by an invigorating jet shower rinse and a healing body wrap with a wine cave mud mask.
Spa Terra amenities include a relaxation lounge, steam grottos, soaking pools, waterfalls and private treatment rooms for individual and couples treatments. Attention to detail is evident in elements such as hand-forged wrought-iron fixtures, water features and extensive custom tile work, including Mediterranean-inspired mosaics. Thoughtfully selected materials and an earthy palate provide a subtle reminder of the unique location of this underground oasis.

The Meritage Resort and Spa is preparing to open its 131,300 square foot expansion in spring 2012. The project will add 165 guest rooms and suites each with private balconies or patios, bringing the resort’s total to 319 rooms, including eight Executive and Presidential Suites. In May the resort will open Crush Ultra Lounge, featuring six luxury bowling lanes, pool tables, sports entertainment, a fireplace and two bars. Other new amenities include a croquet lawn, outdoor fireplaces and fountains with seating areas, Blend Café and an expanded fitness studio that opens onto a patio with views of the resort’s private vineyards and olive trees.
